Privacy
The short version: there are no accounts, we do not sell your data, and the preferences that make the site yours stay on your own device. Here is the longer version.
No accounts
You never sign up to use the site, and there is nothing to log into. Your reading list, your theme, the spoiler warnings you have dismissed, and how far you have read in a series are all stored in your own browser, not on our servers. Clear your browser storage and they are gone.
Email, only if you ask
If you turn on review alerts, we store your email address so we can send the alerts you asked for: a heads-up when we publish a review of a new series. We confirm the address first (you click a link in a confirmation email), we send the email through Resend, and we never sell it, rent it, or use it for anything other than those alerts. Every email has an unsubscribe link, and you can ask us to delete your address at any time.
What we measure
To understand which series and searches readers are looking for, so we know what to cover next, we keep a count of search terms entered on the site. We do not attach those to a name or an account, and where a request address is recorded at all it is one-way hashed, not stored in a form that points back to you. We use this to decide what to write, nothing else.
We also use PostHog for privacy-friendly, aggregate product analytics: which pages get read and how people move through the site, so we can make it better. It is not advertising, we do not sell the data, and we do not use it to build a profile of you across other sites.
Cookies and storage
We use a small amount of local storage and one preference cookie to remember your settings. We do not run third-party advertising trackers. The cookies page lists exactly what is set and why.
Other services
Some pages embed a YouTube player for our companion videos. When you play one, YouTube may set its own cookies under its own policy, the same as watching the video on YouTube directly. Cover thumbnails and where-to-read links point out to stores like Amazon, Audible, and Royal Road; following one takes you to that company under its own terms.
